Dutch Gag Bit French Link Mouth
Information
Stainless Steel 'broken mouth' with centre link Dutch Gag Bit Double jointed mouth with flat link
The link is set at an angle, so side of link makes contact with tongue to offer more control on a stronger horse.
4-ring cheeks
Mouth thickness: 10mm
Dutch Gag typically consists of four rings: the top one where the cheek pieces attach and then three lower rings offering a variety of rein settings, depending on how much control is required.
This Bit is not legal in dressage competitions, but is often seen in showjumping as it offers a variety of ‘brake’ strengths.
The lower down the Bit the rein is attached, the more leverage on the poll and therefore the more control the rider has.
It is a popular Bit as it is effective but not overly severe and can be used with roundings on the lower ring and main ring to have a softer effect.
Double jointed (broken mouth) will conform around the tongue and place pressure more equally over the tongue, bars and lips.
Any nutcracker effect is reduced & allows the rider independent control over the two sides of the mouth.
Many horses are more comfortable with Bits that conform around their mouth
This Bit can be a good choice if a rider finds they needs a little extra control for jumping or fast work.
